NEWS/UPDATES

Did translations of the two new songs from the Takarazuka version of The Scarlet Pimpernel: Hitokakera no Yuuki and Eikou no Hibi.

Added a translation I did of a 2007 interview with Aran Kei - it discusses her Korean heritage. Also quickly updated the "Shopping" links for a couple new book releases.

Sorry for the extreme lack of updates the last several months - I've been working two jobs to afford ridiculously expensive trips to see Touko shows, and have had pretty much no time for anything, including website updates. That said, today I've updated and added a few new things:

Directions to the new Takarazuka-an on the Tokyo Theater Access page.

Updated the Shopping page with lots of new stuff on YesAsia.

And, most significantly, finally posted my translation of the entire script for the revue Cocktail. This was great fun to work on, though very confusing. Revues go much faster than plays, being shorter and all song, but still - what odd lyrics...

Yep, still love El Halcon. Yet more songs from the show:

Mission

Seigi to Ryoushin (Red's Theme)

Ai to Nikushimi no Hazama ni (Gilda version)

Finally put up two more of the songs I've been working on - both from El Halcon:

Shukumei

Nanatsu no Umi, Nanatsu no Sora (Finale Version)

So, what's Takarazuka? Takarazuka is why I had to give up on ever again working on my Enka page. Takarazuka is the reason why I have to eat ramen so much. Takarazuka is the reason I no longer have time to watch anime. Takarazuka is the reason why my friends and family (and sometimes strangers on the street) think I've gone completely out of my mind.

But seriously, folks... Takarazuka is a Japanese all female theater group. They perform musicals and all the male parts are played by women. (The female parts are too, but no one seems to find that very interesting.) That's the short answer; if you want the long answer check out the new Takarazuka Wiki or this lovely site my friend put up and where I learned many many things about Takarazuka back when I didn't really know what it was and just had a vague interest.

So why do you like it? Because it's so incredibly wonderful!! The singing! The dancing! The cross-dressing!

I've always liked musicals. My favorite movie is Oklahoma. (Yes, really!)

I also love Japanese... And when I first got interested in Takarazuka I was in a Low Japanese Self-Esteem period. The first part of third year Japanese was pure torture, and I often came home and cried. Fall term I watched my "Elisabeth" DVD almost every day (my husband took over a year to recover.) It helped me to remember that YES there are things in Japanese that still make me happy.

And, yes, I admit it. I like the cross-dressing aspect. It's sometimes hard to articulate why I like it - I've given my reasons as:

I think those are all part of it, but not all of it.

Why there are no images on this site (except my vintage gallery): Takarazuka does not permit its photos and images to be used on private fan sites. Although I disagree with this policy, out of respect for the company I have removed all images from my site. You can see pictures of stars and performances at Takarazuka's Official Homepage.
